This blogging thing had gotten the better of me...and then the day after my birthday, I woke up and all I could think about was <a href="http://onlyoneblackdaria.blogspot.com"target="_blank">Black Daria. I talked to my friend about it, and then I began to read her some of the posts from this blog, to give her an idea of my writing style.

That's when I saw two comments here! (I get happy over things like this). I felt slightly guilty for abandoning my post, feeling that maybe this wasn't my thing, even though I hadn't given it a fair shot...so when I started <a href="http://onlyoneblackdaria.blogspot.com"target="_blank">Black Daria, in a sense I was starting over...but then I thought, how can I turn my back on this? Even if I only have 32 posts the whole year, should I just walk away from PG and move forward with <a href="http://onlyoneblackdaria.blogspot.com"target="_blank">Black Daria?

And then I thought of the missions of both blogs...while both tap into my humorous side, <a href="http://onlyoneblackdaria.blogspot.com"target=_blank">Black Daria allows me a sense of creativity, while Priceless CandyGirl brings me back to the roots of where this whole thing began.

And so, until I really figure things out, I will probably post "real-talk" here, while immersing myself in Black Daria on the other side of the web (hmmmm, are there sides of the web?)

That said, I'd like to take a moment of silence for Eartha Kitt.

I remember when I was in high school, I started taking a great liking to black dancers, and was fueling my thirst at Alvin Ailey after school on a partial scholarship. I decided to go to the library one day, and I found an awesome book of black performers, people like <a style="font-family: trebuchet ms;" href="http://www.pbs.org/wnet/freetodance/biographies/lavallade.html"target="_blank">Carmen de Lavallade, <a style="font-family: trebuchet ms;" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geoffrey_Holder"target="_blank">Geoffrey Holder and Lena Horne. I remember getting to Eartha Kitt's page thinking to myself, "One day..."

I loved her elegance, grace...her ability to be a chameleon in a world that often made people walk through kitchens before performances...her presence was felt, and I never met the woman.

RIP Eartha Kitt...you were and ALWAYS WILL BE the standard for black performers. Rest in peace.

Photo: Carl Van Vechten, 1952

~PG/NP ;)

Real Housenuts of Atlanta Finale Breakdown

Well, I'd originally given up on these chics earlier in the season, because I saw the ridiculous turn that this "Real Housewives" edition was gonna take, and I didn't like it...but after being caught up one weekend, I became fascinated with just how far these chicks would go for their 5 minutes (my theory is 15 for acting, 5 for reality acting).

Nene

Breaks down Kim at the last supper, thrown by all-around good-girl Lisa, whom I talked briefly about last week on my blog. I know you have kids, so I am trying to be as nice as possible, but you really need to get it together. Your 7-year old has more clothes than all the West African kids who live in my building (counted 15 of them as of February '08).

DeShawn

Seems to bask in the glory of instigating, or maybe she's really sweet at heart. Her marriage to Eric Snow makes me throw up a little in my mouth...but that's OK. Her disaster, I mean fund raiser event for her foundation went on my top list of "When Events Go Wrong"...it has nothing to do with the fact that you clearly know nothing about fund raising, but the overall idea was just undone...hopefully the next one she plans she will read a book or something, cause she will have better luck with a book than with some of those "wannabe" event planners and such who were "helping" her...right.

Sheree

This chick gets under my skin, mainly because she's just so...boring. Besides the fact that she has nothing to talk about besides her 7-figure settlement she's working on, her obsession with only her looks and clothes just is...so fucking 7th grade to me...do you have something else to talk about besides what someone is wearing? And her fashion line attempt? Another disaster...when you are getting your samples dropped off the DAY BEFORE your "viewing" (still trying to figure out what that is, exactly) but you didn't buy the fabric, you don't sew...need I go on here?

Lisa

I don't have too much to say about her, because I think she's the best out of all of them...should have been 5 of her on this show...she's passionate about life, and a good representation of what it truly means to bounce back, because anyone who was married to Keith Sweat automatically bounced back from something.

The Last Supper

The kids were invited, but I am not too sure why, because I had a feeling the conversation would get heated. Low and behold, Lisa opens the floor for dialog. I think Sheree started with something insignificant (usual fanfare), Nene chimed in on her years of "knowing" people, etc...then Kim follows, but ends by saying it's been a shame how things have happened...Nene interjects, and thus, we are shown that Kim never called Nene to ask her about what she said and the context...allowing others to overwhelm the situation...and Gregg, her husband, who looks like he has on Sears finest, chimes in with words that they should all heed to regarding friendships...freaking high schoolers on Gossip Girl handle things with more tact than these womenkids.

And now, onto the Finale! Sorry about yesterday, I got a little caught up, and I didn't really have too much to say, but I have a story to tell about what I'd like to call the Obama effect...

I went to my usual Starbucks on 45th Street and later during a trip to the cafeteria, realized I didn't have the card. My initial thought was I left it in a coat I'd had on earlier that morning to pick up my dry cleaning, but I realized that I hadn't after I cursed out the dude at the cleaners (he should not have said he had the card; of course I didn't realize that until I called my friends at Starbucks). Apparently a good samaritan found the card outside of the store and brought it in to them!

Viva la Obama Effect! Now, onto the hot topics:

$3.00 PER TRIP = HIGHWAY (OR UNDERGROUND) ROBBERY

You know, I am fully aware of the state of this economy, but this is a bit much...how can one propose a full dollar hike after only one year? Again, things are bad, but seriously, as one of my facebook buddies said, I will walk EVERYWHERE when I can to avoid paying extra money for the wrongs of the NYC MTA officials...this is insane and I hope the Straphanger folks are going to get all up in the MTA's ass for this one.

PULL YOUR PANTS UP FOR YOUR CLOSE UP...

Occasionally when I am with my mom, she ALWAYS hits me on my arm when she sees a young man like the one in this story who is getting arrested because they thought that they were robbing a grandpa, but dude ended up turning out to be Mr. Miyagi. I know, I know...I hear all your rumors starting, but still a lot to learn from this one. However, you'll have to pick up the December issue to check it out...but there are some cool things to view on Essence.com, like the interview with Celebrity Harstylist, Ursula Stephens. It never really ended, I've just had enough time to observe the landscape further and figure out my place in this blog world. Yes, I said robbed...

What will the Obama dollar look like? And what's the dog's name going to be? Since Obama is Renegade, Michelle is Renaissance, and Sasha and Malia are both Rosebud and Radiance...will the dog be...Redemer? All we know is one of the little ladies is allergic, so it will likely be a terrier, or a dog that has long hair that doesn't shed.

And how cute is it that Barack and Michelle went on a date this Saturday? I heart them...don't nobody talk bad about the OBAMAS.

THE PARTIES LEADING TO THE DEBATE

I need to take a minute to talk about the mess that was last's week's Russell Simmons' HSAN "I AM C.H.A.N.G.E." event. I am not sure if by writing this, it will get me banned in the future, but oh well...after three different e-mails with a final confirmation, I got to the red carpet with a person who's name will not be mentioned, to madness.

Thank goodness L. Londell McMillian (he just bought The Source if you haven't heard) was there...but there was another publicist whose name will also go unmentioned (Starts with a B and ends with a C, if you know what I mean) who also said "this is madness, people keep calling my name to get them in and I can't help them..."

To test his theory, I said his name, and sure enough...he ignored me! Nonetheless, we made it across the red carpet just in time, as I heard Russell's handlers talk about he was on his way, so make sure things were ready...

And ready, they were not...who picks Home for any type of fundraising or community organization to do an event? Then the tables were in the fishbowl view, so Spike's wife (oh Lee, sorry, can't act like you know people, they get their feelings hurt) felt it necessary to let us all know that was her husband, even though I just wanted to introduce the person whom I was "media escorting" for the night...along with his new "publicist" who didn't know about this event, but whom I was also responsible for getting into the event...fun times.

I'd also like to state that this event also let me know how done I am with this fake world...here's a newsflash:

-start of newsflash-

You are blessed...be humble, approachable, and stop acting like you are Obama, please :)

-end of newsflash-

If you want to see pictures, check the other blogs. I don't feel like wasting time looking for the pictures for the mess that event was...I know it wasn't anyone's fault in particular, but is it ever?

CHEESESTEAKS FOR OBAMA

So I came up with an idea to donate my time after an eager DJ approached me wanting to do an event in NYC...of course, like many DJs he wanted to be paid, but a friend approached me with a great opportunity to do future "paid" events if we were to pull this one off first for free. So the Obama Cheesesteak jump-off sounded cool!

By the end of the week, this lamer decided that by Saturday, he'd call to cancel...because he got a paid event...I was confused because initially none of us were looking to get paid, and we all knew the payoff...but instead, some of us just come up with loser tatics, like cancelling at the last minute.

So after I deleted his number, I hit Bazooka Joe, who was down for the cause. We had a fun night, but unfortunately, I can't say too much more because I refuse to give the artist, who the event was engaged around, any shine, as he came 40 minutes before the event ended...I love the old school rappers who thinks everyone is waiting for them...yeah, you too.

TRUE JACKSON, VP SHINES FOR KEKE PALMER

Well, of course I have to represent Nickelodeon...did you guys watch True Jackson this weekend? I know, you may be too old, but she's a cute 15-year old who gets a job as a VP of Youth Apparel after being "discovered" selling sandwiches in the hallway of Mad Style (her new place of employment). The critics are buzzing, and I feel like this is so huge for an African-American female lead...so watch! It comes on Saturdays @ 8:30 PM, and the repeat will be on today at 8:30 PM as well.

That's all for now...toodles! Oh, why I named today's blog "Be the Change" is because someone gave me a notebook last Christmas, and I looked at it recently, thinking about Barack...this post became my first entry...

~PG ;)

Today's blog is sponsored by the NY Daily News, the LA Times, and anyone else I had to grab a story from...is that OK for me to say?

*Sigh...

Kanye on Nightline: Life Lessons
Uploaded by skaybn

:/

Did you wear black today?

Hey all-

What a day! The Jena 6...please look this up if you haven't already, because the media has been extremely scarce in their reporting of this insane incident.

In celebration of just hearing on Wendy Williams that Mychal Bell will be released tomorrow (he's part of the Jena 6), I'd like to put a video up...a song I listened to this morning on my way to work:

It's not a game anymore folks...please be aware that we are in a police state. I then my thoughts back to the VMA's...and my favorite performance of all time on that show.

I am not going to bash Britney, I think the other blogs have done that already, and I know a girl in trouble when I see one...I simply wish her well, and believe that through time she will be back. But KELLY CLARKSON...I just need you to watch this clip. Like, I really thought American Idol was a bunch of bullshit, especially after going to Miami to try out with one of my old high school friends a few years ago. But then I saw this performance, and I knew that she was one to reckon with:

Can't deny...she was the baddest bitch that year, hands down...no shoes, totally gangster...

Keeping up with the political times...

I saw this clip on the Today Show. It features a young college student who is basically trying to get up in the ass of John Kerry. He was tasered for asking a very good set of questions. Questions I hope you are asking yourself as we approach another presidential election. The bottom line is this: they'd like (you can decide for yourself who "they" are) you to believe that you shouldn't care about voting, but remember, it's a trick. People, black, white and otherwise MARCHED and DIED for these rights. I really get aggravated when I hear young black men say "F dat son, I ain't votin..." Maybe I understand your frustration, but I've never been one to not try to make a difference. I was tired of the "process"...getting burned, curling my hair...I mean, I just didn't have time for all that between my curriculum at LaGuardia, and the other one at Alvin Ailey...so I chopped it all off.

Fast forward to 2000, as I began to "hit the pavement" in search of that coveted job that would prove that piece of paper worth something...as I walked out the door one day, like many days, my mom would say "You can't get a job with an AFRO!" You have to excuse her, as she comes from the days when that might have been true. Well little did I KNOW...these days were like...just the other day (I knew this, but was disturbed to actually see this article in print)

Apparently, a genius (I am totally being sarcastic in case you were wondering) editor from Glamour magazine was asked to do what was supposed to be a fun and relaxing presentation on what to wear to work in corporate America...it slowly turned into a nightmare when the first slide featured women whom had dreads and afros...you can read the full article here.

The best part is that no one seems to know who this biatch is who came there...and calls to Glamour were answered with "Cleary who?"

I remember when I first graduated, I went in for an interview as a floater at Conde Nast. I thought it would be a great way to figure out my place in publishing. The first interviewer liked me a lot, but said she needed her boss to "look at me" before she could decide. I thought the words were interesting..."look at me" as opposed to another interview. I walked into her office and she gave me the Miranda look (catch up to The Devil Wears Prada...Glenn Close is the bitch in that movie, with respect when I say that) and said "OK. Thank you." She said nothing else, so I asked what was the next step. She told me that they had other people, blah blah...I knew what the science was though...

So...here are the list of publications that need to be boycotted ASAP until these MFers figure out who the genius editor was who thought her presentation was sooooo cute:

<a My boyfriend at the time, who was working overtime that weekend, called me early and was like "Yo, Aaliyah died yo!" I immediately told him to stop playing and that shit was not funny. I then turned on CNN, and the fear in my heart was revealed in a cumbersome way.

Later that week, I walked from my PR gig at the time to her memorial at Cipriani a few days later, which happened to be about two blocks away. I dedicated my lunch hour, and it took maybe 45 minutes just to get inside. It was as if you were at the actual homegoing, and it very thoughtfully done, as well as great closure for those who couldn't understand just why this happened to such a promising force in entertainment.

Aaliyah: Wherever you are in heaven, know you are always thought of...from your song popping up in my iTunes shuffle, to a picture of a new young hopeful, I've always modeled myself with the notion that 'beauty lasts a while, but charm lasts forever.' (Coco Chanel)

With that, I present my post, with a special dedication to Ms. Aaliyah Dana Haughton.

~NP/PG ;)

A very LOADED Post on a Friday... (originally written 8.24.07)

Hey candies-

What a week! I wanted to be here more often as I promised, but I started a new freelance assignment in a different department at MTV and was busy ALL day! Monday and Tuesday, however, I really just wasn't in the mood. I was off those days but I was a little 'tudish (when I have a attitude) so I didn't bother. Plus I only have maybe 5 people reading this rag via blog, so really, I didn't think it would matter...but that's not how winners think, so thus, I present today's post.

Let's start with a video or two to reminicse. Today's pick is none other that Tevin Campbell...OK, I hear you (no you did NOT go there NIC!) Let's keep it funky though...the following songs will forever be favorites:

This was Tevin's first release as a solo artist. I double checked mP3.com to make sure I was right, and the quote goes "It's assured that Campbell first came to the notice of music fans just after his 11th birthday in late 1989 when he appeared on Jones' LP Back on the Block and was featured on "Tomorrow (A Better You, Better Me)," which hit number one on the R&B charts in June 1990." Also, you'll notice a cameo by none other than the "girl who went upstairs to her room and never came back down" chickie from the hit sitcom Family Matters (hint: she's singing in the choir).

Hmmm...Quincy Jones and young black boys has never really been a great combination; just ask Michael Jackson. So it was no surprise of course when he ended up outing himself in Sister2Sister magazine in 2000 or 2001 by stating he was trisexual, meaning he'd try anything at least once. The sexy young boy I fell in love with on the playground in the 6th grade was slowly diminished. Damn.

Ah, well...moving on:

I love this song too. Damn Tevin, why?

********************************

Solange Knowles and the Spotlight

My boy was handling coordination of the guest list for this event, so I inquired about interview Solange. Here's the e-mail:

from XXX Events <xxxxxxxx@gmail.com>Aug 17 (7 days ago)
to nicole price <pricelessmedia@gmail.com>
date Aug 17, 2007 5:49 PM
subject Re: RSVP for Tuesday's Showcase/Interview Request
mailed-by gmail.com

Hi Nicole,
I've put you on the guest list for the event but i'm not sure if you will have interview time with Solange. I've forwarded your request to our publicity department and they will review it and get back to you ASAP.

-FIN-

So I wondered...why would she pass up press? I mean, I know I am just some random blogger/publicist/writer/jack of many trades, but it's my thought that bloggers hold more power than people would like to think (and some think they are now THE SHIT, but I will save that for another day when I feel like being a bitch).

And then the reports started coming in...I didn't go because I just wasn't feeling that day AT ALL...it had been raining since Sunday; the stars just weren't aligned for such an affair. Vivica's party was the same night, as well as Swiss Beatz (whom I've written about on this blog before).

Solange + Singing = ??????

Look I wasn't there...but I guess this is what I think. I think she's pretty, has really grown into her looks since first seeing her appear as a dancer on the DC tours back in early 2000...I do remember seeing her solo performance during that time...it was a dance routine, sort of Martha Graham or Lester Horton inspired.

Well...Martha Graham it was NOT. But she was a kid, so she got a pass. Then she released that album that no one knows the name of...I mean...here's my point. I think it's great that Bey and those two or three girls, depending on the season, built the empire. But I guess it's like when you are raising children. They are unique, so each has their own gift...I'm thinking there are way too many YES folks around her...

Vivica's Super Sweet 40-something B-Day

Unfortunately, I didn't go to Viviva's bday, but I heard the outside was sheer madness...Ra-Fael Blanco held this illustrious affair, so I know it was in good hands...however it just wasn't in me to go...therefore I can't talk about it, but I can say that Vivica looked her age and I was happy about that. No booty shorts circa the MTV VMA's '05...*wiping forehead*

Jonathan Jaxson and Gay Hollywood

I saw this dude's link via Mediatakeout.com, so of course I indulged myself...I thought it was interesting that he'd outed so many black people, and I returned the next day to see he'd updated the list with some lesbians (both black and white).

My thought was: Word? Dayum. I really have nothing more to say about this...he's accurate on a few, though...for example, he mentioned one actor whom I heard was at a swinger's party getting it in the....from not one but two different MEN throughout the course of the evening and this was no less than 3 weeks ago (NO I WAS NOT THERE DAMN YOU!) Smile now...and sorry, no hints. I like him so I was saddened by the news, just cause I am like dude if you are gay...actually I will give it away if I go there.

The information was valid, as I know this person to be a swinger promoter for some years now. There are others whom I've heard random tales from friends in the industry. It's just funny this is coming from a gay white dude...even HE KNOWS that black folks are the heart and soul of real dough...I'm positive the traffic since MTO talked about it has been BIG.

I also wonder if some celebs and exec's were scared to see if there name was on there, especially if they aren't outwardly practicing their sexuality. Either way, I am really over the fascination of people's sexual histories. Unless YOU are sleeping with these people, why do you honestly care? I've been around Gays and Lesbians my whole life, especially while being a student at LaGuardia High School of the Arts...guess I am just over it.

Peace folks...

~NP/PG ;)

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://candygirlviews.blogspot.com/2007/08/very-loaded-post-on-friday-originally.html' title='A very LOADED Post on a Friday... I must say, some interesting parties will be going down this week, as well as a few showcases I will be talking about. In the meantime, since I've taken a look around and see that real news seems to be more appropriate to read, take a look at the following stories...but I did throw a little gossip fun in there for all you fiends.

Hurricane Dean: It's the storm that's ripping a whole new...you know, into the Caribbean and now heading towards Mexico. I made a mistake on my last blog grammatically...I don't really have time to look for it, but I just wanted to say that since I try to be on point with that...I need to start referencing my AP Stylebook...eh, I will start next week.

OK, on to the goods:

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5099678614147255810" style="FLOAT: left; Pepa were filming some scenes for their new reality TV show coming to VH-1 on October 15 (right around Hip Hop Honors). The show features the ladies (including Spinderella) and focus on where the ladies left off after an untimely break-up (but maybe timely) in 2002.

My colleague, Kim Harris of Painting it Red and I were walking up to the spot when we noticed the cameras. It looked as if they were trying to capture something, so we stayed back for a while to let them do what they do...

Then we hear "Action!" followed by "She's grown, she can go home on her own!" Salt then walks away...I look at Kim and go, "Huh?" Then I hear "Cut!" I then remember that these things are scripted...but Pepa was a bit much...maybe that's how you have to do it for TV though...

So then we walk inside and they give us the look I like to call the "Celebrity Glare." This is when you make no eye contact, even though someone is clearly looking for you to say hello. Hmmm...I smiled and kept walking...f' it...but I honestly think it was just one of those "in the zone" moments. However, I'd like celebrities to check that shit at the door, because frankly, you aren't much without fans and it's ok to look into someone's eyes. That's more than a enough...and a smile is just, well...Priceless ;)

Other attendees included Dana Dane, who informed me that his b-day is September 5, DJ Ralph McDaniels, the Awesome 2's, Big Ced, DJ Wiz and Kim Cooper (BET, former EIC @ The Source). Ohhh...and CHUBB ROCK. Yep. Kinda light in there, but fun times nonetheless.

Spindarella, DJ Wiz, Pepa and Salt, M1-5 (courtesy of Universal Concepts Photoography)

We headed to APT because we heard Q-Tip was spinning...but when we got there, an influx of people were outside, meaning it was packed inside, and suddenly the "I'm Over It" feeling came so we bounced.

OK, enough of the parties and stuff, onto the News:

Forbes says Rappers are DOING it!

Forbes says Rappers are the new Millionaires. "Despite its roots being connected from the underground and connected with criminality, hip hop has become corporate," says Lee Goldman, Forbes Editor. I'm gonna think about that one. Seems that the endorsement game is what is contributing to these riches, as albums are no longer the milk...

Anyway, the top five cash cows are:

1. Jay-Z @ $34 million

2. Fitty @ $32 million

3. Diddy @ $28 million

4. Timbaland @ $21 million

5. Dr. Dre @ $20 million

You can read the article here. I would say businesswoman, but maybe not in traditional formats we may be accustomed to...She has a point though...like seriously, some of these blogs do need to stop (and you know who you are). For example, you must be careful when talking about people you do not know...but we talked about this yesterday...it's the irony of fame. Either way, if you are gonna throw stones, be sure to be ready for some flying rocks coming your way, or you'll find yourself being hung out to dry. Trust me ;)

Special thanks to Kenya of Universal Concepts for the pics...I don't need to jack nobody...and I'd prefer not to...

Kisses,

~NP/PG

P.S. To the hater who had all those jokes, do me a favor...I am not into hiding, so don't make cowardly remarks without showing your face. Have a fabulous day! ;)

DJ Priceless & A letter to Foxy...

Sup candies!

Last night after my gig, I stopped by the Hennessy "Art of Mixing" party at Pacha...I think it's the old Sound Factory which I spent all of 7 minutes in when it was open...just wasn't my scene. Pacha is alot sexier...and for the evening, we had a dancer on the elevator, which led us to the lair of mixing...

My only issue is it was a "House, Indie Rock & Mashups" party...I'm OK with all music (even folk) but I guess sometimes I am just in the mood to hear cursing and what not. I know, ignorant, but still a good release...however, I wasn't completely mad...just wasn't dancing, ya know?

Anyways, it wasn't as completely packed as my client, Tyson Hall (www.tysonhall.com), said it was when Cornerstone did the same event at PM a few months back...I call it the Beverly Bond effect. To me, certain parties just aren't parties without certain DJs...my top 3 right now for NY parties?

1. D-Nice: He's the DJ in your head...just knows how to throw on the right tune at the right time.

2. Stretch Armstrong: Back in '98 @ ReBar, now demolished to make room for more expensive condos, was the place to be on a Tuesday night. Big Frank and Roland (both promoters in NYC) would see the likes of celebs mixed with regulars in a very cramped spot...but for Armstrong, it was worth the trip.

3.Beverly Bond: She's just a girl's DJ...she looks real sexy for the dudes as she spins, but her plays are for us.

Moving on...

I had the unfortunate task of buying today's Daily News and Ms. Foxy Brown once again adorns the cover. Seems she got into a little argument with a neighbor and displayed the Naomi Campbell effect by smacking the chick with her Blackberry. Funny thing is, I saw this article in an African Business magazine about the purpose of their Blackberry's...wonder what Foxy's ad would look like? Anyways, read
here. (Right click to open to a new window).

Seems it's time for a letter:

Dear Foxy:

Sup ma? Saw you at that mess that they called the Urban something awards at the Hammerstein Ballroom...I was the one screaming your name somewhere in the middle of the audience, cause I couldn't believe you were there.

OK, I will get to the point. You do realize that this little incident is gonna have you on the Lil' Kim program, right? And I don't think you'll be able to pull those antics in jail...although, I could never see you being someone's...well, bitch.

Either way, good luck with this. I mean, since you just signed that deal with Koch and all, I think you could probably just go ahead and do one of those infamous "Rap Over Phone" albums...

Respectfully Submitted,

Priceless Candygirl

In PR Stunting News:

Books are the new pink (why hasn't this always been a good look?) Apparently, having a Lindsay Lohan or Poshy Spice Girl carry your book causes folks to run to the bookstores...don't believe me? See here.

More to come...

~NP/PG ;)

New day, New Post...

It's been a while since I wrote, and there are a lot of reasons. First off, I was completely scared after a series of events which I hate to say it, but I actually started it and it was all my fault. It resulted in me needing to walk away from the whole blog game...I wouldn't visit gossip blogs for over a month!

I often read other blogs I like, and I make comments. Those who know me know I am extremely sarcastic, and a smart ass...but I am a sweet lady. I just like being a bad girl sometimes, and I get carried away...well, not only did this bite me in the ass, but it taught me a lot about the folks like yourselves who sit and read these things on a daily basis.

It's a battle for me because I indulge in gossip and blogging. As a publicist, I have to know what's happening...my insight and inner circle keep me abreast of things, and I CHOOSE to not talk about these things, but sometimes I do...especially if I have knowledge on the matter.

For example, a partner of mine went to Turks and Caicos about two weeks ago, and saw some things that for lack of a better word, conflict accounts made on numerous blogs (if you recall, Turks and Caicos is where a very popular prime minister and his wife live...and I will leave it at that).

So, me being the person I am, I may make a comment...there are people that I may not know on a "talk on the phone" basis, but I know them because they may always see me with my partners, or we have some connection. So, I may say things like "Kelis is a nice girl..." Kelis is a person who I went to high school with, and whom I've had brief conversations...true story: I went to a party to try to talk to her about being her assistant after hearing she needed one on the air...some call it stalking, but I say I am a hustler and a go-motherfucking-getter.

Another one of my gripes on these other blogs are spelling errors, and grammar...not saying I am Webster, but there are dictionaries ONLINE these days...and some programs like FireFox even highlight misspelled words...this doesn't stop certain bloggers, so as a joke I'd correct them...well, apparently these bloggers have feelings...they can dish and can't take...and their groupie "commenters" come to their defense.

Well, I am officially off of my bullshit, and I am back. But how do I make it so I don't become one of them? Have you seen pics of these people? I can't understand how they talk about people when they clearly don't look in mirrors. I am no model, but when I got a look at some of these clowns, I was in shock and awe...like are you serious?

BUT for their defense, I really get annoyed with the celebrities who think they shouldn't be talked about..."We want our privacy..." and all that other bullshit.

Well *Ring Ring*...the clue phone is ringing, so pick this up...don't become a celebrity if you don't want to be looked at or talked about...because it's a part of the business...it's SHOW BUSINESS. If you want privacy, be behind the scenes...k, bitch? Yeah, I am talking to YOU. And you know who you are...

There are some celebs who you'd really never know what the hell was going on with them...take notes. Don't think you can be a Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan...it's nothing to aspire to, unless that is your business. If you want to be the party girl or dude that fucks everyone, get ready because there are ALWAYS consequences...unless you are good at what you do, which means you pay the photographers to not say anything, or you make sure you establish a relationship with these cats so that they will kiss your ass...I see and read these posts ALL the time.

...but even then, just leave it alone...it's all about finding your niche in this business.

So with that...I blog, therefore I am...but I was WAY before the blog...

Stay tuned...and yeah, be a little afraid, too.

And for Nick Cannon fans, I just saw him downstairs at Junior's...I am doing a little stint at MTV this week...he's cute and little, has excellent skin...I want that Louis Vuitton backpack he had on man...it was pretty dope. I didn't say hi for fear of being called a groupie...but Hi Mr. Cannon :)

Smooches and Candy Kisses,
~NP/PG ;)

Friday Specials: King Mag review & the Afterparty, Cisqo is back (whoa) and other interesting tidbits you need...

Hi Kids-

***Please note: This post was edited and updated today, May 22...I am trying to get things together to do this more efficiently, but I appreciate your patience!***

It's been an awfully busy week. Mom's graduating with her Master's degree, parties galore and lots of chit chat.

So, where should I begin? Let's start with Datwon's party @ the 40/40:

Shay called me on Monday and said that Datwon Thomas from King was having a party on Tuesday...she didn't know the location, just that Charlemagne (from the Wendy Williams Experience) suggested she attend...so I got on my publicist game and started making some calls, which resulted in getting the skinny and making sure we were taken care of once we got there.

Couple of notable flicks:

Didn't see him...but I am starting to have a crush on Jeezy...or something like that...kinda glad I didn't see him, I'm in between old and new eyewear and contacts, and had no make-up so I wasn't feeling so ultra sexy...

Hen Roc and I go back to the Bad Boy intern days...I was a publicity intern and he worked with the street team...we'd go to party's in Liz's car, who was the video intern, attempting to crash with our IDs from Bertelsmann/BMG (when the offices were at 1540 Broadway) The 8th floor cafe had the BOMB ass buffalo wings...but with our $40/week salary as interns, we were lucky to cop that...metrocards were $17 bucks back then (1999) so it was all about pizza and understanding parents who'd give us an extra $20...wow, what a long ways we've come and still grinding! Good to see you Hen Roc...do you remember these stories I am telling?

This was a ridiculously awkward flick, as we were on the steps with about a million other people. I almost fell a few times, stepped on some poor girl's foot (she said "Damn ma, I think you broke skin") and it was just too much...I was like let's please get out of here before I embarrass myself. And Charlemagne, I don't appreciate you pushing past me to get Big Baby up to Datwon...still love you though ;)

Other folks in the building: Like Dat (Darra), NY Giants players (sorry I know NONE of you AT ALL as I do not have a clue about football beyond the fact that my Aunt is a big Dallas Cowboys fan and my dad was as well so I had the pajamas as a kid...my bad, tangent.) D Woods (very sweet girl who introduced herself to Shay) Meagan Good who I didn't see, but had I would have told her to check her girl at one of the other blogs I frequent who is a hater...damn another tangent...oh and of course I was there. I can't put the pic up with Shay and I, I look busted...I'ma get it together. Maybe that's why Johnny Nunez only took 13 pictures for wireimage.com? Hmmm. Anyway, you can check out other flicks on Crunk & Disorderly

ON TO MYST...

We went to Myst afterwards, where we saw:

DJ Kid Capri...hey, can you go spin down in ATL for a party? Call me! It was quite the hood fabulous event...haven't been to one like that in a while...packed with millions of people including this stink dude whom I politely asked about the birthday cake sitting in his area...I know you are out there and you need to watch yourself. K, bitch? Yes...you know I called that right too...

*Breathing* We had a lot of fun with Charlemagne and the crew...I was done for the rest of the week. We were doing way too many things...but nonetheless, good stuff. Let me hurry so I can get to my next post...here's some other stuff:

Schoolboy's Haircut is a big problem...

Is there nothing better for school officials to do than to harass this young man for a hair cut? I don't see any gang signs so what exactly is the issue here? Please. I smell a lawsuit. Word.

Did-dy...do it?

I debated on posting this link, however, Diddy has been quite the talkpiece this week...first, we have The Fake Janice Combs site, which is quite the chuckle. I mean, you tell me. Then, Diddy tried to beat up poor little Laurie Ann Gibson, his choreographer the past few seasons on Making the Band (yeah, another is coming...I know...) however, did Michael Bivins hit you? What gives him the balls? That Diddy juice is contagious...

D-list notes:

Often people call my own clients d-z listers, so these stories always interest me...especially because what's the A-list doing anyway? They are BORING. Think about it...do you see Will Smith getting his papparazin' on? NO. Not only because he has a good publicist (actually phenomenonal) but because what does he have time to toil about and get written up on? Pays (read: PAYS) to have a tight ship. So...Are Ice-T and Coco on the D-list or something? Hmmm.

OK, another post brews...and eventually I will catch up daily...stay with me!

Kisses,
NP/PG ;)

Tuesday Going-Ons...KRS-ONE, Usher Pulls a Trump and all this other mess you are obsessed with...

Hi Kids!

Disclaimer: I'm happy to say I've learned how to place clips such as videos on here, but I still have yet to grasp the concept of creating links that don't take you away from my page...I am working on it, so bear with me...thanks! :)

Let's start with the Clip of the Day:

So, because we are pretty much in the midst of a silent genocide to end Hip-Hop (today I will blame Nas...just kidding), who should the major media networks call so they can attempt to try to make a mockery of something that "is the most giving community in the history of American pop culture," according to Russell Simmons (courtesy of "Do You"). I'm not too sure what the journalist was trying to accomplish, but I just can't deal with any more rappers trying to defend hip-hop to people who will clearly never understand the meat and potatoes of it.

Open letter to all Rappers:

Hello <del>Bitches and Hoes</del> Rap Community:

Hi! Some of you know me, and some of you don't. That's OK, that's the purpose of writing letters.

Over the past few weeks, I've seen a flurry of you jump to get the chance to state your case on shows such as 60 minutes, Fox News and the like...and well, you guys are making me just a tad nervous. You see, some people who didn't grow up the way you did, have a pretty hard time understanding your lyrics. Just look at video shown above behind KRS-ONE, does that song even contain the N-word in it (help me out Nelly, I can't remember, and I only have seen the BET edit version)? Or was it that we looked "niggardly" enough to make the arguments these folks put up on a daily basis.

Well...I think KRS-ONE has a point, so it makes me wonder who casted the first stone against Hip-Hop in all this? So my reccomendation as a publicist is to come up with some fancy-smancy answer to these folks, and it should just basically say "Hey guy, I don't wanna be involved." I just don't think you guys should respond to this tomfoolery, as I only see it as a way for them to try to control the one thing we have fought hard to keep in the family...and that would be Hip-Hop.

So, please. Don't cave in to their alterior motives. Or we may find yet another plane crash with another great, or better yet, a "War" (read: Dipset) resulting in us losing yet another person whom some kid out there is motivated enough to want to change their lives and not just gang bang like they want us to believe.

Think about it. Get at me...let's talk about it.

With Scratches and Beats,
PG
********************************
OK, done with the PSA...onto the goings-on this weekend:

Usher Fires (or retires) Mom as Manager and Publicist, Effective Immediately

Usher really lets it <a href=" http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/Music/05/07/people.usher.ap/index.html"rel="external">burn with his mom. According to this article on CNN.com, there's no hard feelings. Damn, you have a dope publicist. What a great buildup to this album...way to bring it home. Then on my ride this morning I read that he's also released Simone Smalls as publicist. I happen to know who the new publicist is, but I need to check in with them to make sure it's cool for me to reveal that, so I'll let you know...

Sanjaya's New York's Next Candidate for Companionship?

So since I didn't watch American Idol but I did watch some of the news on this guy, I simply can't imagine why...I just cant. If they put this <a href="http://www.tmz.com/2007/05/07/i-love-new-york-to-include-ex-idol/"rel="external">Sanjaya kid on I Love New York, I am cancelling my cable subscription...OK, I think that's too drastic. But you tell me...they aren't serious, right?

Paris...oh Paris...

It appears Paris is <a href= "http://www.tmz.com/2007/05/07/paris-does-not-lack-appeal/"rel="external"> not ready to be someone's bitch, so she's appealing her 45 day jail sentence...but gee, something made me think you'd like being someone's bitch...

Chris Brown's Sweet 18

Chris Brown had a party Sunday night, but I wasn't there so I'm not talking about it and I don't want to post any pictures. Go to <a href="ybf.blogspot.com"rel="external">YBF for that. YBF hates me because I like to talk about grammar alot in the comments section, but that's OK, I still read her blog...gives me a good laugh and is somewhat knowledgable. Hopefully my ass-kissing earns me a spot on her hot blogs list...we shall see.

Tonight will be Bobby Valentino's album release party...I'll let you know how that goes. Wednesday I got Buckeey coming into town for a photo shoot and Amy Winehouse's event...should be a real cool look...I'll let you know about that too...

Blog & Web Watchin'

What team are you on exactly, DL? Was this your big chance to get a job with Jay Leno? Hmm...I did laugh, but I don't think he needed to say all of this <a href="http://ybf.blogspot.com/2007/05/video-fab-dlti-get-mouthy.html"rel="external">(YBF)

When did Solange Knowles change her baby's name to Juelz? I thought his name was Daniel. I really busted out laughing when I saw this. I mean, it's a good idea and all, but can the kid have the childhood his aunties didn't? I looked around to see what publicity snafus have been going about...here are some things that are going on:

Maia…oh Maia :(

So, I came across this on Philly.com today. Seems that Maia Campbell is really caught up in the drug game…so much that she stole someone’s car! I was first sent the clip of Maia singing in some type of lingerie for Crack Cocaine back in late 2006 and was like…DAYUM. But this is way out of control, so if anyone knows her, please try to help her. Call former management, publicists, LL Cool J, someone..She’s beautiful and talented, and she must be in immense pain to be doing this to herself. Her talented mother Bebe Moore Campbell died a day after her 30th birthday according to this report...I hope we find her before it's too late.

Busta Busted.

You just can’t get a break. So Busta was pulled over on the West Side Highway(were you coming from that Hennessey event downtown?) and arrested because a smell of alcohol adorned his breath. *sigh* You do know that you are going to jail, right? OK, just checking…oh and when’s your album coming out? Because there must be a reason why you are doing dumb stuff. And I like you, my brother likes you so…let’s get it together.

Usher don’t want his mama to be his manager no mo’
According to Rush & Molloy, Usher is letting his management relationship 'burn' with his momma. You have to scroll past the Jay leno story…but that’s worth a read too…Usher’s reps are denying this, so…we shall see…I’ve read on other blogs that Tameka Foster, Usher’s fiancée and Momma don’t really get along. I don’t know these people, so I can’t confirm that. Guess we will see what happens.

Charm School Girls party it up at the China Club

Seems like Charm School is out for spring break! I love the Simmons girls but I can’t help but notice the sadness in Justine’s eyes...I hope as time passes, things will get better, although I am sure they already have.

Back to Neyo real quick. So, I am slightly annoyed with the revolution that are these "fake" events for the fans. I mean, I guess I am UBER spoiled when it comes to these things...I haven't paid for an event since...I can't even tell you when. But tonight, they are having this event for Neyo at Avalon, which is already making me look for the snooze button since I can't deal with Avalon on any level...then you have the infamous "first 1000 ladies are free" drama, followed by the plug-in from the local radio station...it's just too much. Give me a red carpet, a stand and repeat, and I am good...I also like an open bar, such as the one provided at the Nas album release party (yeah, I am still talking about that one.) Anytime PATRON is a part of open bar, it's a serious event.

But I digress...

Today the ladies will take over Dr. Jay’s in Brooklyn for the NY launch of Pastry Footwear. You can check out their MySpace page here. I just got off the phone with a friend who happens to work at the “swanky hotspot” where the ladies will be having their private affair after the promo day at Dr. Jay’s. Since we know that Russell will be off with the heads of anyone who tries to test him, I can only tell you that there have been over 800 RSVPs, and the guest list is capped at 125…fun!

So, that means I won’t be there, but here is my open letter to the Simmons’ girls:

Hey Angela and Vanessa,

Congrats on the Pastry Collection! It’s nice to see two sisters come together for the greater good of footwear. As I was walking home yesterday in these boots that made my feet feel as if I were walking on coals, I wondered about where I’d be able to pick up those sneaks…

I hope you have fun at your party tonight, I wish I’d been invited, but I am not one of the cool kids in your cipher yet…until then…cheers! My boy Rodney LoveJones makes great Red Velvet cupcakes if you are ever looking for some epicure delights!

http://www.iambilljones.com/

Best,
Priceless CandyGirl

Moving on...

My daily habit is to pick up the New York Daily News and catch up on what's going on here in the big city...it allows me to focus less on my retarded daily commute. Here were a few highlights from today's paper:

Granny Takes a Toke at Freedom: Did you hear about this? I mean does the NYPD have nothing better to do? Frankly, she’s a pretty fly granny…I am not mad at her shades!

I’m under the general conclusion that Jim Farber is paid to write these reviews. I mean, he never has anything bad to say…and even when he does, he goes back to fluff. I also find the title to be extremely..."queen"-ish. I will leave that one right there.

Eve is back on the town…with a driver…and Tracy Morgan…dayum.

Missing the Old Monica Arnold...

So, Monica apparently fired back at people talking bad about her baby on Mediatakeout.com.

Introducing my Jacked Pic of the Day!

Now I am trying to figure out why she was at the Scrip (I meant to spell it that way) Club, and…OK, let me stop acting like I’ve never been to one. I didn't draw that circle either...some folks think she and Rodney Hill are no longer, but it doesn't appear that way since they were there together...

I went to Russell Simmons’ book launch last week at Stereo…hmmm…well, then I came across this clip from the infamous mediatakeout.com. Seems Russell has a problem with his patience or hearing, you know from all the music that has blasted in his ear for the past 20 years…or something like that. Power is a hell of a drug.

I’m done…until tomorrow!

~NP/PG ;)

Good Stuff for a Rainy Monday!

Hey candies!

I had to take a break and really take a look at some of these other bloggers and what exactly they are trying to do. I've not only learned that blogging is not an easy task, but it also comes with great responsibility...therefore, I am trying to figure out the laws of the land, and where I can exactly fit in this picture...

OK, so now that I am done with my Oprah moment...

1. What is the mess that is Swizz Beats? Whoa, who is his publicist? Hmmm...I don't think this is a very cool look for you my dude:

(courtesy of Crunk & Disorderly, per my jacking skills)

2. I Love New York Reunion: Sorry folks, I haven't caught it all yet but I do hear that old girl got dumped by Mr. TMNT himself (that reference suits him wonderfully...):

(courtesy of the Flavor of Love Blog)

After viewing how nasty New York was when talking 'bout his momma he told her he couldn't marry her, so I hear...uh...come on now were you thinking you were going to marry her though dude? Wow...the crack epidemic lives rampant in Tampa, huh?

3.Lil' Romeo Goes To School: Well, Master P gets a pat on the back from me. Seems like his son just signed up to play Basketball over at USC this fall...let us pray he gets Mr. Romeo a box of condoms, or that he at least puts the patent on some type of contraption that can attach itself and never come off for at least 4 years...or something like that.

And yes, I am well aware that Mediatakeout.com is not the best authority on these things, but there be some truth on there...sometimes...well...I think it's just fun to figure out what's true and what isn't, but that's too much of an endorsement until we become friends.

4. Gary Dourdan's (The Black Guy on CSI) Publicist is Fired: TMZ.com has your boy on tape being denied entry into new "white Hollywood hot spot" (yes, that is what it was referred to as on tmz.com) Parc (put this link in a new broswer):

http://link.brightcove.com/services/link/bcpid285859616/bclid294430730/bctid769369294

Oh, you don't know who he is? Shame on you! Apparently, neither did the door people...but I've dealt with this at a few nightclubs in NYC...they aren't always happy to see the brown faced people...those A-D lists do exist, and most brown folks are pretty much D on those lists...sorry to break it to ya...unless you have $3k-$5k/month to give to some publicist who has the inside track, is in bed with the owners (literally) or is just...enough to do the job...you fill in the blank.

5. Russell Simmons says "Do You!": Most bloggers seem to be fixated on Russell's next Kimora, but it seems he's coming out with a book, due on shelves April 24:

(from Penguin Group (USA)'s website)

From Penguin Group (USA)'s website: "The business and cultural icon finally shares his experiences in and beliefs on success in Do You! 12 Laws to Access the Power in You to Achieve Happiness and Success. Simmons has been instrumental in bringing hip-hop to every facet of business and media since it’s inception in the late 1970’s, as well as being heavily involved with several philanthropic organizations including Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, and the Diamond Empowerment fund. But no matter what the venture, Russell is always driven by the belief that hip-hop and the arts are enormously influential agents for social change."

Cool...I liked his Life After Def book, so I'll be looking out for that...wonder why I haven't heard too much about it though...

6. These Execs Need Assistants that Know What Spellcheck Is and It Wonders: OK, so on Sandra Rose's temporary site, she posted a letter from Jermaine Dupri, stating his response to this whole Imus mess, and it goes like so:

THANK U FOR RESPONDING TO MY BLOG SOME OF YOU SEE IT MY WAY OTHERS DONT FOR ALL OF YOU THAT ARE ?ING RAP VIDEOS AND OUR MUSIC THIS IS WHAT I SAY

WE MAKE CLEAN VERSION OF OUR MUSIC SO THAT WE CAN GET ON THE RADIO WE PLAY BY THE RULES WHAT THAT MAN DID WAS JUS TRY TO GET AWAY WITH SOMTHIN AND SAY FUCK THE RULES THIS IS MY SHOW I CAN DO WHAT I WANT

AND NOW HES TRYIN TO PULL RAP MUSIC DOWN WITH HIM AND YALL ALL KNOW THATS BULLSHIT

NO DRAMA IS ONE THAT THINKS WHAT WE ARE DOIN IS BAD AND I SAY TO YOU WHAT DO THINK THE WHOLE WORLD IS SPOSE TO BE ALIKE ?
I MEAN WHAT THIS PERSON DECIDES TO DO IS NOT WHAT YOUR GONNA DO AND YOU OR I CAN CONTROL THAT

IF A GIRL WANTS TO DO PORN OR BE IN PLAYBOY ITS HER DECISSION ONCE OUR KIDS GET OF AGE ITS THERE CHOICE TO DO WHAT THEY WANNA DO

PORN IS A BILLION DOLLAR BUISNESS THAT NOBODY ATTACKS CAUSE YALL THAT KEEP TALKIN ABOUT US RAPPERS STILL GO BEHIND DOORS AND BUY THESE MOVIES USE DILDOS AND ALL THAT
BUT USE US AS A SCAPE GOAT

THIS HAS NOTHIN TO DO WITH RAP MUSIC THIS HAS TO DO WITH SOMBODY BREAKIN THE RULES FLAT OUT!!!!!!!

-End of Madness-

Although it's clear that grammar and spell check do not exist on Blackberry's he does have a point...this could very well a way to attack rap music, but seriously...are clean edits enough? And I don't understand, does JD have a blog or something? If so, does it have spell check?

Half of these songs don't even have words once edited so um...what are you trying to say here JD? Your publicist is also fired.

And Snoop Dogg's response?: "It's a completely different scenario... "[Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about ho's that's in the 'hood that ain't doing sh--, that's trying to get a n---a for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC [the cable network home to Imus] going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them mutha-----as say we in the same league as him."
