Did you wear black today?

Hey all-

What a day! It's been peace walking around and seeing my fellow brothers and sisters in black and knowing why :) I honestly became emotional at one point.

What am I talking about? The Jena 6...please look this up if you haven't already, because the media has been extremely scarce in their reporting of this insane incident.

In celebration of just hearing on Wendy Williams that Mychal Bell will be released tomorrow (he's part of the Jena 6), I'd like to put a video up...a song I listened to this morning on my way to work:

It's not a game anymore folks...please be aware that we are in a police state. I walked from lunch with a friend today to see police (being assholes I might add...I wonder if that's part of the job description) with AK-47's on Broadway and 45th...we asked why and they gave some smart ass answer...I have to remember that most of them are not educated, but you know, I try to not let that factor in my thoughts of a person.

Anyways, hoping you wore black today...I was an avid protester in college and I fully believe in standing for the rights of those whom have been silenced due to the politics of America. Stand up people...the time is now.

Peace,

The VMA's BEST performance in '08 & Stories of Tasering...

Morning Candies!

Coming into work this morning, I thought about the fact that I haven't put my pics up and how I am getting on my own damn nerves because they are good pics! I then my thoughts back to the VMA's...and my favorite performance of all time on that show.

I am not going to bash Britney, I think the other blogs have done that already, and I know a girl in trouble when I see one...I simply wish her well, and believe that through time she will be back. But KELLY CLARKSON...I just need you to watch this clip. Like, I really thought American Idol was a bunch of bullshit, especially after going to Miami to try out with one of my old high school friends a few years ago. But then I saw this performance, and I knew that she was one to reckon with:

Can't deny...she was the baddest bitch that year, hands down...no shoes, totally gangster...

Keeping up with the political times...

I saw this clip on the Today Show. It features a young college student who is basically trying to get up in the ass of John Kerry. He was tasered for asking a very good set of questions. Questions I hope you are asking yourself as we approach another presidential election. The bottom line is this: they'd like (you can decide for yourself who "they" are) you to believe that you shouldn't care about voting, but remember, it's a trick. People, black, white and otherwise MARCHED and DIED for these rights. I really get aggravated when I hear young black men say "F dat son, I ain't votin..." Maybe I understand your frustration, but I've never been one to not try to make a difference. Will voting make the difference?

It's a start.

Peace,

R.I.P. Tupac :(

I know, I know...horrible with the blog postings right now...

Anyways, while I figure out where I can jack a USB cord to upload my pics from my Vegas trip, along with time to actually watermark them so they aren't jacked, please view the video from one of my favorite rappers whom just celebrated a birthday (has it really been 10 years, PAC?)

R.I.P. to a true prophet gone way too soon...

Please excuse the wacky start to the video, I don't know why that girl is sitting there like that...just get to the video, and listen to the words...

Peace,

Hard to forget that day...

It was my third month at a PR firm not too far from the UN, and I was sinking so low...it was a challenge to keep up with all my work, and it seemed like it couldn't get any worse...that morning, I'd gotten to work early, because we had clients flying in from Boston, and I didn't want to fuck something else up.

As I went to begin setting up the conference room, I almost dropped the copies I had in my hand. I looked and saw the fire...but I thought "...there is a restaurant in the WTC, it must be that...but how are they going to put that fire out?"

Within a few more minutes, both Tower 1 and 2 of the World Trade Center were gone...and I was getting nothing but a rapid busy signal when I tried calling both my mother and stepfather.

Minutes later, an announcement was made over the loudspeaker, asking that employees come to the largest conference room they could find. Amidst the confusion was a woman, being comforted by a VP of HR, whom I was told later that her husband worked on the 97th floor...I can't remember which tower...

On the street were cries of anger, desperation, and dazed glares. Looking down 5th avenue, the landmark I loved was now gone...within a month, its absence would make one believe it never even existed.

I won't forget that day...I hope you don't either. Today's post is for the people whom we lost on September 11, 2001. May your spirits live through your families, and through ordinary people...like me. The spirit of New York lives through...and this will always be my city :)

Peace,

Viva Las VEGAS!

Hey peoples-

I do need to talk to you about the Kedar Massenburg event at the Porche dealership the other day (extremely sexy party) as well as the Diet Pepsi launch of their new design...but I gotta get ready for the VMAs! Yes, I will be on the scene and letting you know all the backend stuff.

I do want to thank Nik (ANTM) for taking time to talk last night (she's a sweetheart) as well as Melyssa Ford on Wednesday...but we will talk more about that later...

So sit tight...because whatever happens in Vegas will certainly NOT stay in Vegas if I am around...and as promised, it will be strictly concious gossip.

In the meantime, check out this new reality TV show that Dawn from En Vogue and her hubby are putting down...clips that make you say...ummm...I don't really have any words right now, I need to think about this one.

Peace kids...have a safe weekend!

Dreadlocks and Glamour don't seem to mix...

Hi Candies-

OK...so I got this e-mail last week regarding an article on the law firm Cleary Gottlieb, and I almost lost my mind...apparently, Conde Nast is on some real bullsh*t, and seeing how I deem myself a whistleblower...

Dreadlocks and Afros...the tried and true argument that my mom and I have had since I cut all my hair off back in '95. I was tired of the "process"...getting burned, curling my hair...I mean, I just didn't have time for all that between my curriculum at LaGuardia, and the other one at Alvin Ailey...so I chopped it all off.

Fast forward to 2000, as I began to "hit the pavement" in search of that coveted job that would prove that piece of paper worth something...as I walked out the door one day, like many days, my mom would say "You can't get a job with an AFRO!" You have to excuse her, as she comes from the days when that might have been true. Well little did I KNOW...these days were like...just the other day (I knew this, but was disturbed to actually see this article in print)

Apparently, a genius (I am totally being sarcastic in case you were wondering) editor from Glamour magazine was asked to do what was supposed to be a fun and relaxing presentation on what to wear to work in corporate America...it slowly turned into a nightmare when the first slide featured women whom had dreads and afros...you can read the full article here.

The best part is that no one seems to know who this biatch is who came there...and calls to Glamour were answered with "Cleary who?"

I remember when I first graduated, I went in for an interview as a floater at Conde Nast. I thought it would be a great way to figure out my place in publishing. The first interviewer liked me a lot, but said she needed her boss to "look at me" before she could decide. I thought the words were interesting..."look at me" as opposed to another interview. I walked into her office and she gave me the Miranda look (catch up to The Devil Wears Prada...Glenn Close is the bitch in that movie, with respect when I say that) and said "OK. Thank you." She said nothing else, so I asked what was the next step. She told me that they had other people, blah blah...I knew what the science was though...

So...here are the list of publications that need to be boycotted ASAP until these MFers figure out who the genius editor was who thought her presentation was sooooo cute:

OK, I figured out...

Hey Candies-

Remember a few weeks ago, I posted the Forbes list of wealthy rappers? This quote stood out to me, but I couldn't figure out why I had an issue with it:

"Despite its roots being connected from the underground and connected with criminality, hip hop has become corporate..."

Then I started walking, and said "OOOOOOHHHHH!" Like, wouldn't this be the same description for those whom already work in corporate America, the fulton fish market (please mafia, I am just a little black girl so don't) or President Bush himself? I mean, I've seen it...these junior and senior level execs expensing things they KNOW they have no business expensing...procurement, which clearly is another form of rape without sexual contact...

Whatever. I would have just rather Hip Hop Weekly report this...

Over it.

Be back soon...got some more sh*t for ya...and this one is good...
